Liberty One manages its own ships and offers complete management services as a third party manager. The first vessels will be two Supramax-sized bulkers with a capacity of 58,100 dwt each. However, the future fleet will not be limited to the bulker segment. New acquisitions will be decided on depending on the market situation, the medium-term market outlook, supply and purchase prices.
On the personnel side Liberty One aims to employ a team of highly trained and experienced professionals at sea and ashore, recognizing that the retention and long term development of this team is the key to their success as shipowners and operators.
Directors of the company are Susanne Meyer and Dietrich Schulz, both with extensive working experience and great competence in shipping. The Luxembourg-based Jaccar Holdings is the strong partner of Dietrich Schulz.
Six questions for the directors of Liberty One Shipmanagement GmbH & Co. KG
1. What is your definition of successful business?
Susanne: A successful business relationship is governed by trust between the partners. The measure for a job well-done is a partner who wants to continue and expand his business with Liberty One.
Dietrich: A good deal for me is if it is profitable for the partners involved in every respect.
2. What is your motivation for joining and setting up Liberty One now?
Susanne: Dietrich Schulz and I complement each other in our work, we share the same principles. The timing for the start-up of Liberty One is ideal because it allows us to put our experience to the test and to take responsibility for the results.
3. What is going to be different with Liberty One?
Dietrich: We have gained extensive experience and it is now a great opportunity to start from scratch based on the lessons learned.
4. What difference do you want to make at Liberty One for your teams ashore and at sea?
Susanne: Ashore we will pool the competence that the members of our team have acquired in their respective fields and encourage development and new ideas.
At sea, retention and training are the keys to successful shipmanagement today. Our industry does have the tools to train and develop manpower to the highest standards. We intend to apply those tools every step of the way.
Beyond the development of our pool of seafarers we will look for partners in the industry that share our vision of competence in shipping.
5. Dietrich, how are you connected with your business partner Jacques de Chateauvieux of Jaccar?
Dietrich: Let me refer to the first question. I know Jacques and his team as valuable partners since 2004. The relationship is based on mutual trust and profitability for both sides.
To say it clearly: Jacques has made it possible for my dream to come true.
6. Why did you choose Bremen as your headquarter?
Susanne: Bremen offers an ideal infrastructure and a good understanding of our business: the Bremen Shipowners Association, the national shipping register, marine insurance specialists, ship financing banks and other service providers for the maritime industry... everything an entrepreneur is looking for in an ideal business environment.
Dietrich: But there is one other important aspect which we appreciate very much: We feel at home here.
